Origin & History

The Thunder Bay Police Pipe Band was formed in 1984 by......

The band wears the Anderson tartan, selected to honour Debbie Anderson, the wife of the band's founding Colonel-in-Chief, Chief of Police Gerry Ouellette.

Motto

The motto of the band is A Posse Ad Esse - From Possibility to Actuality, and is also the motto of the City of Fort William.

 

Mission

The primary mission of the band is to provide appropriate reverence, honour, and respect to City of Thunder Bay Police Service functions as well as City of Thunder Bay functions.

The band also provides highland bagpipe and drum musical entertainment and accompaniment at other parades and functions both inside and outside the City of Thunder Bay.

Objective

The Thunder Bay Police Pipe band encourages the musical development and deportment of both adults and youth and promotes inclusivity and camaraderie with other other pipe band members across the City of Thunder Bay.

No 1. Uniform:

  • Black/white diced glengarry with band cap badge.

  • Tunic (Incl.: military & civilian medals and honours as appropriate for the occasion)

  • Red tunic belt with silver buckle with maple leaf emblem

  • White shirt:

    • Long Sleeve (Nov. 1 - May 31)​

    • Short Sleeve (June 1 - Oct 31)

    • Or as otherwise directed

  • Black/navy tie with optional tie clip

  • Belt - black (underneath tunic)

  • Sporran - black leather with three tassels

  • Kilt - Anderson tartan with Thunder Bay Police Service kilt pin

  • Hose (navy)

  • Garter knots (red)

  • Sgian dubh (optional)

  • Ghillie brogues

No. 2 Uniform
